SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA (HawaiiNewsNow) -
San Diego Chargers inside linebacker Manti Te’o is out for the rest of the season after tearing his Achilles tendon during Sunday’s game against the Indiana Colts, according to ESPN.
Sources told ESPN on Monday that Te‘o, of Hawaii, will require surgery followed by a long rehab process.
The 25-year-old is in the final year of his rookie contract with the Chargers.
"Everything happens for a reason," Te’o said after the game. "I live by a quote that says, 'God puts mountains in front of you to show other people that it can be moved.' My faith is strong and I know that I will be all right."
Te’o suffered the injury with 5:48 left in the opening quarter while trying to cover Colts running back Frank Gore.
