MANOA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
An altercation over a stolen car led to two men being shot at in Manoa early Tuesday.
Police have opened two attempted murder cases in connection with the case,
The incident happened about 12:30 a.m. on Metcalf Street near the University Laboratory School, when two men were pursuing a stolen car.
Police said a 26-year-old man whose car was stolen on Sept. 16 from Salt Lake got information earlier in the evening that his car had been spotted in Manoa with altered out-of-state tags.
The owner and another man, 31, located the vehicle and confronted a group of about five men near the car. Police say the men argued with the group but decided to leave, then turned around and followed the car when the suspect driver started to flee the scene.
That's when, police say, another man fired multiple rounds at the victims' car. One bullet hit the bottom of the passenger side door.
The two men flagged down a police officer near Lunalilo Street and reported the incident.
The suspect was described as being about 5-foot-6, and weighing 130 to 140 pounds. He was last seen wearing light-colored shorts and a gray-colored top.
Investigators have recovered at least three shell casings from the scene. They say a bullet might have also hit a home's garage door.
Anyone with information on the stolen car or the shooting suspect is asked to call police.
