IRVINE, Calif.—University of Hawai'i women's volleyball player Nikki Taylor (Honolulu, O'ahu/Kaiser HS) earned her second Big West Player of the Week of the season after all-around solid play in back-to-back victories over Pepperdine.
Taylor, a 6-4 opposite, averaged 3.86 kills, 2.71 digs, 0.86 blocks and 1.57 service aces and had team highs of 27 kills, 11 aces and 41.0 points to lead Hawai'i in the two matches on consecutive nights.
In the first match, Taylor recorded 13 kills and 11 digs in UH's sweep over the Waves. She tallied her third double-double of the season and notched a career-high seven service aces, including four straight to start the second set to help her team jump out to an 8-0 lead. She swung at a .276 clip (13-5-29) for the match.
In a four-set triumph the next night, Taylor turned in 14 kills, eight digs and five blocks. She added four more service aces and committed only five attack errors for the second straight match.
Taylor, who put up 20.5 points per match, moved up to No. 16 on UH's career kill list with 1,137 career kills with a team-high 146 of those coming this season.
Currently, she leads UH with 146 kills, 5.41 kills per set, 25 service aces, and 183.0 points.
It is the ninth time in her career that she's earned the conference's weekly award.
Hawai'i, who moved up one spot to No. 14 in this week's AVCA poll, hits the road this week to open play in the Big West Conference as they begin to defend their 2015 title. UH will take on UC Santa Barbara, who has the best record in the conference at 9-4 first on Friday, Sept. 23. UH will then face Cal Poly (7-4) on Saturday, Sept. 24. Both matches are slated to start at 7:00 p.m.
