HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Honolulu police officer pleaded not guilty to five counts of wire fraud on Monday, in connection with a bribery scandal back in April.
Maulia LaBarre was arrested on Friday and released on Monday on $25,000 bail.
An indictment claims the 34-year-old sent text messages to a known prostitute offering to make sure another officer would not testify against her if she had sex with him.
If convicted, LaBarre faces up to 20 years for each count. He is due back in court in October.
