KAHANA BAY, Hawaii (AP) - Groups are working to coordinate preservation of human bones near Kahana Bay.
Hawaii News Now reports (http://bit.ly/2cgTqUY) the Department of Land and Natural Resources released a statement Friday saying the descendants have taken an active role in protecting the bones.
The department is responsible for overseeing discoveries of Hawaiian remains.
State Historic Preservation Division workers have secured the site.
The land department's statement says the case falls under the preservation division's jurisdiction.
