WAILUKU, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Maui county residents near the Wailuku river should remain vigilant as a flash flood warning is issued until 10:15 p.m. Friday.
The warning was issued shortly after 7 p.m. by emergency management.
Flooding in west Maui is likely as a result of heavy rainfall over the past couple of days that has been trapped at higher elevations and is now making its way downstream.
Water has been reported over Iao Valley Road and is threatening several private residences.
A flash flood warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring in streams and low lying areas. Residents in those areas are advised to move to higher ground and to not cross flowing water by foot or in a vehicle.
