The Hawaiian Word of the Day is Kana?ina. Charles Kana?ina was the father of the 6th monarch of the Kingdom of Hawai?i, William Charles Lunalilo. Charles Kana?ina was an ali?i, or royal, by birth having descended from high chief Pi?ilani of Maui and famed Hawai?i island chief Umialiloa. He also served the Kingdom of Hawai?i in the Privy Council and in the House of Nobles. Charles Kana?ina was named after his uncle Kana?ina who was one of the ali?i who first greeted Captain Cook in 1778. The Hawaiian Word of the Day is Kana?ina.
