KAHULUI, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Some parts of Maui are being asked to boil water on Wednesday due to possible contamination from flooding, the Department of Water Supply said.

The areas under the boil water advisory include Kahului, Wailuku, Paia, Spreckelsville, Puunene, Kihei, Wailea, Makena and Maalaea. Officials said this will also affect hospitals, the Kahului Airport and government buildings.

Though there are no water quality violations, officials say this is a precautionary measure for public health and safety purposes.

Officials advise boiling water for three minutes or to use bottled water.

DWS personnel are working to ensure clean water and will reassess water quality on Wednesday.

DWS is also asking that people in Wailuku and Kahului conserve water and avoid any unnecessary water use until further notice.

Call (808) 270-7633 for any water-related problems.
