Three fisherman are safe thanks to some good Samaritans who came to the rescue when they ran into trouble off Maui early Monday morning.
At 3:20 a.m., Lahaina firefighters responded to the Sonnie Boy, a 23-foot homemade vessel that was taking on water about 500 yards off Launiupoko Beach Park.
A private boat about a mile away responded after receiving a request for mariner assistance from the U.S. Coast Guard.
They were able to bring aboard the two men from Lahaina, ages 30, 50 and 70. The 70-year-old, a Wailuku man, is the owner of the vessel.
All three men were wearing life jackets at the time of the incident. They were in good condition and did not require medical attention.
