EWA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

With tropical storm Darby skimming our islands earlier this year, hurricanes Madeline & Lester nearly making landfall last week, and with still almost three months remaining in Hurricane Season, we need to keep getting and stay prepared. In light of the National Preparedness Month in September, the Ewa Emergency Preparedness Committee (Ewa EPC), is hosting its 6th annual  Get Ready Ewa Preparedness Fair. The fair will take place on Saturday, September 10, 2016, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Ewa Makai Middle School.

This year's theme is "Get Trained". With thousands of attendees attending our fair over the past 6 years, there are not enough Community Emergency Response Teams  or "C.E.R.T." Teams within communities, as well as Red Cross, DEM/HI-EMA, FEMA, NDPTC, NOAA, and training provided by HI Heart Foundation. Our goal this year is to get attendees to sign up for our FREE classes as individuals, or as neighborhood initiatives, community clans, or families).

"Ewa EPC" is an all-volunteer committee, Non-Profit 501(3) here to serve as a resource for Oahu communities on preparedness.   Having met all the requirements for training, educational outreach, exercises and community events like the EPC Fair, we have been designated a StormReady and TsunamiReady Community by NOAA.
