A 20-year-old woman died Sunday after a head-on collision in Kona, the Hawaii Police Department said.
The woman was identified as Breanna Fujimoto, of Captain Cook.
The crash happened on Saturday before 1:30 p.m.
Police said Fujimoto was driving a Honda sedan southbound on Hawaii Belt Road – Route 11 – when she crossed the centerline of the road just south of the Kamehameha III Highway intersection, and collided with a Nissan SUV that was traveling in the opposite direction.
Fujimoto was taken to the Kona Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead the following morning.
The driver of the SUV, a 38-year-old Kealakekua woman, and her two children, an 11-year-old boy and 13-year-old girl, were also taken to the same hospital. The woman and girl were treated and released, but the boy was transferred to the Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu, where he was listed in stable condition.
Police are still investigating whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
