Hundreds to take part in 47th annual Waikiki Roughwater Swim

Interview: Labor Day/Waikiki Roughwater Swim

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - When most people are taking the Labor Day Holiday off and relaxing, about 700 participants will jump into the waters just off of the Natatorium/New Otani Hotel and take part in a 2.384 mile race called the 47th Annual Waikiki Roughwater Swim.

People from around the world including two athletes who just participated in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games took in the waters off of Waikiki.  We talked to Australian Olympic Competitors Wallace Eggleton and Jarrod Poort.  They just participated in the Maui Channel Swim two days ago and love coming to Hawaii to swim.

We talked to 3-time winner Alex Kostich who said that each destination's event has a different personality, but Hawaii definitely has "aloha" with it's event and the people that are a part of it.  We also caught up with the Kamehameha Swim Club girls, one who was participating for her very first time.

It's from the Natatorium to the Hilton Hawaiian Village; a wonderful and invigorating way to spend the morning of your Labor Day Monday.
