A 58-year-old man was pronounced dead at the hospital after getting into trouble in waters off Sandy Beach Friday.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office has identified the man as Mark Saffell of Missouri.
Lifeguards rescued Saffell from the water about 11:45 a.m., and performed CPR until paramedics arrived.
A High Surf Advisory remains in effect for the east-facing shores of all islands as Hurricane Lester pushes up surf.
