Business Report: August arrivals, Honolulu mortgage lending, bankruptcy filings

Here’s your first look at August arrivals – 889,000 total, up 4% - international up almost 3% as traffic from Korea and Australia offset a small decline from Japan – mainland traffic rose just under 1% to Oahu but jumped 10% to Kauai AND Maui AND the Big Island.

Honolulu mortgage lending records the largest spring quarter drop of any major U.S. city. ATTOM Data Solutions reports almost 2 million mortgages originated nationwide, down 4% from last year, but Honolulu mortgage originations fell 16%, twice as much as second place Denver.

U.S. bankruptcy court for Honolulu counts 123 bankruptcy filings in August, two more than the month before and four more than year-before. The spike was on Oahu with 84. There were 22 in Maui County, 14 on the Big Island and three on Kauai.
