HANA, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Power has been restored to nearly 8,000 customers in Upcountry Maui and Napili.
Heavy rains and gusty winds from Tropical Storm Madeline knocked electricity out to 6,394 customers in the Upcountry area on Wednesday morning. Power was restored to all customers within about an hour.
Meanwhile, early Thursday, 1,368 customers lost power in the Napili area when tree fronds fell on electrical lines. And about 55 customers in Olinda lost power when a tree brought down electrical lines.
All customers were restored by 9 a.m.
"As Hurricane Lester advances, our Maui Electric response teams remain vigilant and are prepared to respond if the electrical system is impacted on Maui, Moloka'i, or Lanai," said Sharon Suzuki, president of Maui Electric, in a news release.
"With safety of our customers and employees always a top priority, we also want to continue to remind people that electricity can be dangerous and electrical safety should never be taken for granted, especially during an emergency situation."
