All Hawaii Island public schools will re-open on Friday.
Schools were closed for Tropical Storm Madeline, which brought heavy rains and high winds to the Big Island on Wednesday.
Public charter schools will also be open on Friday.
Schools Superintendent Kathryn Matayoshi said no Big Island schools sustained damage in the storm.
She added, "We will remain vigilant as Hurricane Lester makes its way toward the islands and continue to keep everyone informed of the affects it may have on our schools."
On Maui, Hana High and Elementary School was closed Thursday following heavy rains overnight.
