Flood Advisory expires for Big Island as tropical storm passes to the south

A Flood Advisory has been issued for the Big Island as Tropical Storm Madeline passes south of the island.

Just before 5 p.m. Wednesday, radar showed heavy rain from Madeline along the eastern slopes of the island including the Hilo and Puna districts. Rain is falling at a rate of one to two inches per hour and is expected to continue for the next few hours.

Locations in the advisory include Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Honomu, Keaau, Pahoa, Pepeekeo, Pahala, Glenwood, Hawaiian Acres, Mountain View, Volcano and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

The advisory is set to expire at 8 p.m., but may be extended if needed.
