July may have been a record for tourism, but Molokai didn’t feel it. Its visitor count fell and spending was down 50%. Lanai spending doubled with Manele rooms back online. Average Lanai stay 20 days while for Molokai, it was only two days.

The Hawaii Tourism Authority puts out requests for proposals to manage three programs – all involving cultural or environmental tourism that spotlights what makes Hawaii different from other places.

The Waikiki Trade Center transforms this winter into the millennial-centric Hyatt Centric Waikiki Beach. They’ve named Charles Young as general manager. He ran the Courtyard by Marriott Waikiki.

Outrigger names a general manager for its two oceanfront hotels in Waikiki, and Clyde Min will personally manage one of them, the Reef. His resume ranges from Hana to Disneyworld.

Hawaiian Electric has canceled its contracts to buy oil from both local refineries. HECO had to cancel them or the contracts would renew automatically – now the vendors will bargain for new contracts.

Finance Factors promotes three vice presidents to senior VPs – Melanie Horikami, Mike Sakai and Mark Wakatsuki – they’re in charge of strategic initiatives, special asserts and credit administration.

The Hawaii State Federal Credit Union has a manager for its new Hawaii Kai branch – Liann Unebasami, formerly with Bankoh.
