Kaniakapupu is the name of King Kamehameha III's summer palace in Nuuanu. Construction of Kaniakapupu was completed in 1845, and it was built upon the ruins of an older heiau of the same name. The palace was built to entertain foreign dignitaries, chiefs, and commoners.
On restoration day in 1847, Kaniakapupu was host to a grand lu?au with over 10,000 people in attendance.
