HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Lester continues to maintain strength as a tropical storm, but is moving on a track away from the Hawaiian islands.
The cyclone brought high surf to east-facing shores on Saturday, and forecasters say the state could continue to see damaging surf through Sunday.
But the storm no longer poses the threat of heavy rains and high winds to Hawaii, the Central Pacific Hurricane Center said.
For much of the week, forecasters feared Lester could significantly impact the state.
Lester maintained its strong Category 2 status for days, and Oahu was under its first Hurricane Watch since Hurricane Iwa in 1982. But on Saturday, the storm weakened to a Category 1, and the Hurricane Watch was discontinued for all islands.
