JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - The owner of a cruise ship line says a bear that mauled two company wilderness guides during a hiking excursion in southeast Alaska went on the attack so quickly it was over in a matter of seconds.

UnCruise Adventures CEO Dan Blanchard tells the Juneau Empire (https://is.gd/mwo5Gm ) the attack occurred after the hikers from the cruise vessel Wilderness Explorer rounded what he called a "semi-blind corner" and found themselves between the bear and her cub.

The Coast Guard rescued the injured guides, 41-year-old Anna Powers of Hawaii and 26-year-old Michael Justa of Juneau. UnCruise Adventures is not confirming the names, and Blanchard said it's an effort to protect the crew.

Justa was treated and released the same day in Sitka. Powers has been recovering at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
