HILO, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Brown Water Advisory has been issued on Wednesday for Big Island and Oahu beaches after recent heavy rains.
The state Department of Health Clean Water Branch has issued the advisory for Honolii Beach Park and Hilo Bay on the Big Island. On Oahu, a Brown Water Advisory has been issued for beaches from Rocky Point to Velzyland, Bellows Beach, Waimanalo Beach, Nanakuli Beach, Kailua Beach, Lanikai, Waimea Bay and surf spots Rockpiles, Bamburas, Secrets and Ala Moana Bowls.
The public is asked to stay out of flood waters and storm water runoff due to possible overflowing cesspools, sewer manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens and associated flood debris.
If the water is brown, stay out.
