HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A few days ago we told you about the annual show put on by military commissary purchasing agents. They rent a banquet hall at the Hawaii Prince and invite local food manufacturers to show products they think would sell at the PX.

So let's say you sell spam-flavored crackers locally and they do okay at Made in Hawaii, so you think maybe the commissary might want to carry it at Schofield. So you get some space at the show and offer samples.

The purchasing agents like your spam crackers and decide to give you a small contract, just for Oahu, and see what happens. Military personnel here buy your product. And then they get transferred far away.

And there they are, in Wiesbaden, Germany, asking the clerk at the commissary where the spam crackers are. Meanwhile, the commissaries on Oahu have decided you're a reliable supplier. So they expand the contract and start carrying your product around the world. This is not a hypothetical: you can buy Lion Coffee in just about any PX on the planet.
