HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Activist and former Congressional candidate Kathryn Xian was one of at least two Lyft drivers arrested for operating at the Honolulu International Airport without a permit.

The state Attorney General's office booked them Thursday on the misdemeanor offense, a spokesman said. Xian, however, has been released pending investigation.

The crackdown comes after taxi companies complained about ride-sharing firms operating where they have exclusive contracts.

In April, Hawaii News Now reported on the ongoing feud between ride-sharing companies and taxi firms at the airport.

Cab companies pay the state hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to legally operate at the airport.
