Forecast: Locally breezy trades, showers to start the work week

Our weather should get a little drier late Monday and Tuesday as an upper level disturbance to the northwest of the islands lifts off to the northeast. Meanwhile, moderate to locally breezy trade winds will continue, picking up some speed late in the week as a lower level disturbance passes south of the islands. This disturbance may also increase showers Thursday or Friday, but more typical weather should return in time for the weekend.
Surf will stay pretty small for most of the week, but a small long-period south swell is expected Tuesday through Wednesday. A Small Craft Advisory remains posted until 6 p.m. Monday for Maalaea Bay and the Pailolo and Alenuihaha Channels for strong east winds of 25 knots.
