KANEOHE, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - City officials will close the Kaneohe District Park pool for about a month starting Monday, Aug. 15 to Sept. 9 to upgrade the pool pump system that circulates the water.
It's one of the most heavily used pools through the city with up to 200 people a day and regular pool maintenance and repairs are important to public safety, officials say.
Not only will they upgrade the pump system that moves 600,000 gallons of water at this site, but officials say they will also install new pipes that flow to and from the large Olympic-sized pool and its smaller keiki-sized pool.
The Department of Parks and Recreation reports that five other pools are currently or have recently undergone work. The Kapaolono pool in the Kaimuki area is closed right now and the pool in Wahiawa is set to undergo some repairs in November.
Official say they've notified the regular users and are posting signs at the site during the closure. Among those who utilize the facility are swimmers at Kailua and Castle High Schools who use it for swim and water polo practice.
There are 21 DPR sites on Oahu with pools.
The nearest pool for swimmers to use during the closure is the one at Kailua District Park.
