No tsunami threat to Hawaii following 7.6 magnitude quake in South Pacific

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A strong earthquake has shaken an area southeast of the Loyalty Islands near Fiji in the South Pacific, but it did not generate a tsunami threat to Hawaii.

The quake was measured at a preliminary magnitude 7.6 according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake happened at 3:35 p.m. HST at a depth of six miles.
