The 2016 AVCA Preseason Coaches Poll was released on Wednesday with the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team ranked No. 6, their highest preseason ranking since being ranked fourth in 2005. The Rainbow Wahine were also voted as preseason favorites to win the Big West Conference on Tuesday.
The Rainbow Wahine are coming off the team's 34th NCAA Tournament appearance in which they advanced to the Regional final. Last year, UH posted a 29-2 overall record while capturing their third Big West title in the last four years since the 'Bows rejoined the league with a 16-0 mark. The 'Bows have a solid core of 12 returnees—including five starters. Leading the UH charge is AVCA second team All-American and 2015 Big West Player of the Year Nikki Taylor and all-Big West Players Emily Maglio, Savanah Kahakai and Kalei Greeley.
Hawai'i's opening opponent, Wisconsin, enters the pre-season poll at No. 4 after posting a 26-7 record last season. Future opponent Washington is tied at No. 7 while UCLA comes in at No. 12. Both Arizona and Long Beach State are receiving votes. Defending NCAA champions Nebraska is the top
