OLOWALU, MAUI (HAWAII NEWS NOW) -

A man was killed after losing control of his truck on Honoapiilani Highway on Saturday night, Maui police said.

He was identified as 34-year-old Brenson Rosario.

Police said the man was heading southbound when he lost control of his truck on a left turn and collided with a guardrail around 9:30 p.m. The truck then traveled into oncoming lanes before colliding with a second guardrail.

The truck then overturned and landed on the man, who was the only occupant of the vehicle.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation shows he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

It is not currently known if speed, drugs and alcohol are factors in the crash.

This is Maui's 11th traffic fatality in 2016, compared to 15 at this time last year.
