KULA, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Red Cross of Hawaii of Hawaii is helping a woman whose Upcountry Maui home was destroyed by fire on Friday.
The blaze happened about 7:14 p.m. in a remote area of Kanaio only accessible by four-wheel drive vehicles.
By the time firefighters were able to the get to the site off Piilani Highway, it had already burned to the ground.
Fire crews had difficulty extinguishing the flames because of the remote location. They had drive back and forth to refill a water tanker.
The blaze was determined under control at 11:53 p.m. Damage to the home and its contents was estimated at $50,000.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
