A surface low that was tropical storm Howard will move over the islands Sunday, bringing with it a chance of heavy showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms. Most of the heavy showers are for the northern islands and to the northern coastal waters.

The threat is highest for Kauai and Oahu, but heavy rain can't be ruled out elsewhere, so a Flash Flood Watch will be in effect statewide from Sunday morning into Monday. A drier trade wind flow is expected Tuesday and Wednesday.

A High Surf Advisory remains posted for east-facing shores of Kauai and Oahu until 6 p.m., with another advisory expiring at noon for east shores on Maui County and the Big Island. There's also a small fun-size bump on the south shores with waist-high sets from time to time. For mariners, a Small Craft Advisory is in effect for coastal waters around Kauai and Oahu.
