NANAKULI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A heavy equipment heist from Kapiolani Community College spurred an hours-long police chase early Thursday.

And while much of the equipment was recovered, at least two suspects are still at large.

Police say the suspects are believed to have stolen two trucks, a trailer and a mini excavator from the community college campus about 1 a.m. Thursday.

Police started pursuing the suspects in east Honolulu, after a KCC security guard called police. They followed the suspects to Windward Oahu and then to Halawa.

The officers apparently lost the suspects, but they were spotted again in Waianae about 2:45 a.m. Police then recovered most of the stolen equipment, but the suspects were able to get away.

The stolen vehicles and equipment belong to PAC Electric, police said. A first-degree theft investigation has been opened.
