HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

There are actually two rankings for school systems, one on education and one on safety. Hawaii did okay on safety, coming in at number six in the nation. But for schooling we’re in the bottom 10, landing at number 42. Among states that ranked even lower: Oregon, and Arizona. California was only four better at 38.

The top 10 were mostly Northeastern states, plus Minnesota and Wisconsin, and Virginia. The metrics they studied, including test scores, dropout rates, and the number of lower-income students who went on to college.

A reminder to parents: study after study has shown, the more education you have, the more money you make. It rises with high school graduation, rises again with attending college, rises again with a degree, rises again with advanced degree. And over a lifetime, people with good educations spend less time between jobs.
