HANAKAPIAI, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Crews on Kauai on Sunday rescued dozens of hikers from Hanakapiai and Hoolulu Valleys, a notoriously dangerous hiking area on the island, due to heavy rain.
The Kauai Fire Department said the first incident involved a woman who got separated from her group around 2:30 p.m. and got stuck on the side of a cliff near a popular scenic cave. A helicopter airlifted her out of the area.
At around the same time, crews also rescued a group of stranded hikers near the Hanakapiai stream, which was swollen from the rain.
Firefighters then flew up the Hanakapiai Valley to help four people stuck below Hanakapiai Falls. They were also airlifted to the area where the other hikers were.
No injuries were reported.
Officials want to remind the public to take caution as flash flooding could occur at any time.
