HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - [Update]

The Flood Advisory has expired for Windward Oahu.

[Original story]

A Flood Advisory has been issued for windward areas of Oahu until 2:15 a.m.

The National Weather Service said at 8:16 p.m., radar indicated brief periods of heavy rain across Windward Oahu, particularly between Kahuku and Kaaawa. Rain was falling at a rate of one to two inches per hour.

Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Waimanalo, Kailua and Waikane.

Persons in the advisory area should stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas that are prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking.

Also, do not cross fast-flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot.

The advisory may be extended if the heavy rain persists.
