HFD: Accidental ignition of aerial firework causes explosion in apartment

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - An explosion at an apartment complex Wednesday night injured one person, according to the Honolulu Fire Department.

HFD responded to reports of a building fire around 8:20 p.m. in the second-floor unit on Kanunu Street.

Five fire companies with 18 personnel responded and reported seeing light smoke coming from the unit.

Investigators determined the explosion was caused by an accidental ignition of an aerial firework.

Damage was estimated at $1,000.

The injured person refused treatment from Emergency Medical Services personnel. No other injuries were reported.
