MANOA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Honolulu Fire Department rescued a hiker from the Manoa Falls trail on Tuesday morning.
Capt. David Jenkins said a 21-year-old man went for a hike Monday night and posted a photo on Instagram from a peak. But when he didn't return later in the evening, his friends decided to call HFD for help at around 8 p.m.
Firefighters hiked up the trail around 6 a.m. Tuesday and managed to make voice contact with him. They sent a helicopter to retrieve him near the second waterfall.
It's not clear if he was lost or didn't make it back to the trailhead before it got dark.
He was not injured, HFD said.
Manoa Falls has been the scene of a few incidents recently. On July 14, a 24-year-old woman was hospitalized after slipping and falling 100 feet. In June, 19-year-old Kristi Takanishi died after falling 200 feet from the second waterfall.
