HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Oahu Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association says Sunday's championship regatta at Keehi Lagoon has been cancelled as a precaution because of Tropical Storm Darby.
"It is in the best and highest interest of safety and precaution due to the approaching Tropical Storm Darby that the Oahu Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association has decided to cancel our championship race on Sunday, July 24, 2016," reads a statement from the organization.
The race, which typically draws thousands of paddlers and spectators, will likely be rescheduled, association officials said Saturday.
"We encourage all of our paddling ohana to stay safe and to be as cautious as possible over the next couple of days. Mahalo for the continued support and understanding with this matter," continued the statement.
