KEAUHOU, HAWAII (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A 4.3-magnitude earthquake rattled the Big Island on Friday night.

The tremblor happened about 9:16 p.m., and was centered about 3.3 miles northwest of Captain Cook at a depth of 7 miles, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The USGS said earthquakes at this depth are not typically tied to volcanic activity. The earthquake had no apparent effect on Kilauea's volcano's ongoing eruption, and did not generate a tsunami.
