All shelters closed after Darby passes by state

HILO, HAWAII (HawaiiNewsNow) -

All shelters across the state were closed as of Monday morning after Darby passed by the Hawaiian islands.

The American Red Cross reported that on Sunday evening, 233 people stayed in Oahu shelters. Of those, 199 people stayed at the BYU-Hawaii shelter, 18 stayed at Waimanalo District Park and 16 people stayed at the McKinley Shelter.

On the Big Island, 226 people stayed overnight in shelters. Shelters were closed as of 8 a.m. Sunday.

On Maui, 43 people stayed overnight in shelters. Shelters were closed as of 5 p.m. Sunday.
