Forecast: Darby to bring strong winds to the Big Island

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Tropical Storm Darby continues moving west towards the state, in response the National Weather Service has heightened the threat level by posted a handful of severe weather alerts. 

Tropical storm conditions in offshore waters are expected in the next 48 hours.

TROPICAL STORM WATCH is posted for the Big Island and Maui County, tropical storm conditions are possible in the next 48 hours.

FLASH FLOOD WATCH starting Friday through Sunday afternoon for Maui County and the Big Island.

HIGH SURF WARNING starting Friday morning for east facing shores of Maui and the Big Island.

Strong winds from Darby are due into the Big Island as early as Friday night moving up the island chain through the weekend, wind speeds could top 60 mph which could cause property damage.

Heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms are also expected which might trigger flooding and power outages through the weekend.
