HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Ewa entrance to Ala Moana Beach Park was forced to close after a sinkhole developed at around 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
The sink hole is significantly bigger than it appears at the surface. Officials say it's at least 4 feet in diameter underground.
Barricades and traffic cones are placed near the sinkhole while city crews investigate the cause. Once the full scope of the damage is known, the Department of Parks and Recreation will have a better idea of when the entrance will reopen.
Meanwhile, the Diamond Head entrance to the park across from Atkinson Drive remains open. Park hours from and planned activities are continued as scheduled.
