HILO, HAWAII (HawaiiNewsNow) - The smell of smoke forced a plane to make an emergency landing in Hilo on Friday.
Hawaiian Airlines Flight 19 was traveling from Sacramento, California to Honolulu when crew members noticed the odor of smoke in the cabin.
Crew members turned off a fan that circulates air throughout the plane, and it helped to dissipate the smell, but the captain decided to land as a precaution.
The plane landed at Hilo International Airport at 9:30 a.m. so maintenance crews could determine the source of the smell and inspect the aircraft.
A total of 218 passengers and nine crew members were on board.
