HNN political analyst discusses Trump's VP, Sanders backing Clinton and the Honolulu mayoral race

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Colin Moore is a political analyst for Hawaii News Now. He appeared on Sunrise this morning to talk about presumptive republican nominee Donald Trump's choice for vice president. He believes that Indiana Governor Mike Pence is a safe pick for Trump because he's not controversial and in some ways gives Trump a sense of legitimacy.

The most recent CBS News/NY Times presidential poll shows that democratic presumptive nominee Hillary Clinton is in a statistical tie with Trump with 40% of the vote each. Moore believes that Senator Bernie Sanders' endorsement for Clinton had no effect on a poll like this because of the FBI investigation. The agency investigated whether Clinton had mishandled classified information when she was Secretary of State. The FBI recommended that no criminal charges be filed against her.

In the Honolulu mayoral race, Moore said that former congressman Charles Djou may be getting more support among voters because of his stance on the rail project. Djou has said that he would cap the spending, even if the entire route cannot be completed with the current budget. He has also pledged not to raise taxes because of it.
