HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

University of Hawai'i senior running back Paul Harris was selected as a preseason candidate for the 2016 Doak Walker Award, announced by the PwC Athletic Forum. The award is presented annually to the nation's top college running back.
The Columbus, Ohio native rushed for a season-high 1,132 yards in 2015, becoming UH's first 1,000-yard rusher since 2010 and only the second since 1992. Harris concluded the season by tying a school-record with his fourth consecutive 100-yard game and finished the season with six games over the century mark, the most by a UH back since 1992. He also broke a 60-year old school record with a 95-yard touchdown run against UC Davis.
Harris ranked fifth in the Mountain West and 44th nationally with a 5.7 yards per carry average and averaged 94.3 yards per game. The team's Offensive Player of the Year rushed for a career-high 190 yards on 20 carries versus UNLV and totaled six rushing touchdowns on the season.
Harris was one of six MW running backs among the watch list joining Nevada's James Butler, Wyoming's Brian Hill, Utah State's Devante Mays, Air Force's Jacobi Owens, and San Diego State's Donnel Pumphrey. Six of the 11 semifinalists for the 2015 Doak Walker Award appear on the list including finalists Leonard Fournette of LSU and Christian McCaffrey of Stanford.
The PwC SMU Athletic Forum will name 10 semifinalists on November 16 and three finalists will be announced on November 22. The recipient of the award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on December 8.
The award is named for SMU's three-time All-America running back.
