HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A Honolulu police officer on Thursday pleaded not guilty in Circuit Court to charges in connection with a December 2015 road rage incident in West Oahu.

Keoki Duarte, 33, was charged last week with third-degree assault and unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported that a truck driver said he accidentally hit Duarte’s car while changing lanes on Farrington Highway near the Kahe Power Plant. Duarte then allegedly punched, kicked and choked the truck driver.

Duarte, who was reportedly off duty at the time, serves on HPD’s traffic division and has been on restricted duty ever since.

His trial begins the week of Sept. 12.
