WAIKIKI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Waikiki's Pacific Beach Hotel has announced a $115 million redevelopment aimed at transforming the resort, best known for the 280,000-gallon aquarium in its lobby.
The hotel's 839 guest rooms will be renovated, and two new pools will be added.
Celebrity chef Masaharu Morimoto will also add two new restaurants in the hotel: One will be a high-end eatery and the other will feature more casual dining.
Meanwhile, the hotel's famous "oceanarium" will undergo a makeover. The saltwater aquarium will feature more than 1,000 protected marine animals, and will include new coral designed to mimic reef formations found off Waikiki.
The hotel will remain open during the 18-month project, slated to wrap up by fall 2017.
Once the work is complete, the hotel will be re-branded as the Alohilani Resort at Waikiki Beach.
