The Tropical Storm Warning has been dropped for all islands as it moved away from Kauai.
Darby made landfall on Hawaii Island on Saturday afternoon about 10 miles east-northeast of Pahala, bringing drenching rains, strong winds, and high surf. Several hours later, the apparent center of the storm emerged off the west coast of the Big Island and continued northwest along the state.
Latest Forecast
At 5 p.m. Monday, the center of Darby was located about 265 miles west-northwest of Honolulu or 130 miles west of Barking Sands, Kauai. It was moving west-northwest at 9 mph. This general motion is expected to continue as Darby moves away from the main Hawaiian islands, eventually dissipating.
Central Pacific Hurricane forecasters say Darby is forecast to weaken into a post-tropical low Monday night before dissipating on Tuesday.
The storm was packing maximum sustained winds of near 30 mph. Officials warned, though, the higher gusts are possible.
On Saturday night, sustained winds of 33 mph with gusts to 56 mph were reported at the Oahu National Wildlife Refuge.
Earlier on Saturday, Kohala Ranch on the Big Island saw sustained winds of 43 mph and wind gusts to 61 mph. Meanwhile, heavy rains were falling in parts of the Big Island, including in Hamakua, Hilo and Puna, and thundershowers were reported in Volcano.
