HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - An Oahu Community Correctional Center inmate died Sunday morning, according to the state Department of Public Safety.
Authorities said around 5:50 a.m., an inmate was having trouble breathing, then he stopped breathing and became unresponsive. OCCC staff performed life-saving measures until Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene.
The inmate was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
His official cause of death is pending an autopsy, but preliminary reports indicate there was no foul play.
An internal and Honolulu Police Department investigation is underway.
