KONA, HAWAII (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Saturday was a busy day for firefighters across the state, and Big Island crews were no exception.

A brush fire broke out near the Lokahi Apartments on Kakahiaka Street off Kaiminani Drive in Kona on Saturday morning.

A Kailua-Kona fire official said the fire was 75-percent contained at last count, but expects it to be higher on Saturday evening.

Although the fire wasn't severe, the official said the area wasn't accessible and the fire was scattered, which made it difficult for crews to battle the blaze. A large portion of the fire was extinguished via water drops from a helicopter.

The cause is undetermined, but the fire official said there were reports of some kids seen in the area, but he couldn't confirm.
